British Medical Association Support 20mph Limits
Last week the BMA conference came out in support of 20mph limits. See what they had to say.
Twenty is Plenty
Every week, week in, week out, an average of 57 people are killed on Britain's roads. 350 people are so seriously injured that their lives are irreparably altered.
Of these tragedies, 30% involve pedestrians and cyclists.
At 30mph, 48% of pedestrians in collision with a vehicle will be killed.
At 20mph, only 5% would be killed.
We are calling for Bath's most residential streets, which are often used as rat runs, to have a 20mph speed limit.
A 20mph limit would make these areas much safer for pedestrians, cyclists and especially children. It would reduce the amount of traffic on some of these roads, as they would no longer be seen as short cuts to work.

Residents and Cllrs campaign in Hawthorn Grove
We, the undersigned, call for 20mph limits to be enforced on the most residential streets in Bath. It will create a safer, more peaceful environment, and prevent these roads being used as 'rat runs'.
