Winchester Lib Dems lead revolt over NHS bill
Save the NHS
The recent Liberal Democrat conference in Sheffield overwhelmingly rejected the plans for the NHS put forward by Andrew Lansley, the Conservative Secretary of State for Health.
They've also been rejected by the British Medical Association, the cross-party Commons Health Committee and many other health experts, including Conservative MP and former GP, Sarah Woollaston.
As a result of this pressure, the Government has now said that they will take the opportunity of the 'natural pause' during the progress of the Health Bill through Parliament to listen to people's views.
It's vital that we show the level of popular opposition to the plans and the need for major change. Please sign our petition to show your support.
If you're a Lib Dem member, please also sign the statement hosted by the Social Liberal Forum backing the changes the party is asking for to Andrew Lansley's NHS proposals.
And please also back the 38degrees campaign on the NHS to keep up the maximum possible pressure on Government.
To the Prime Minister & Deputy Prime Minister
We, the undersigned, oppose the damaging and unjustified market-based reforms to the NHS being forced through by the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley MP.
Please scrap these plans and think again.
Independent on Sunday - March 13, 2011:
One of the few unambiguously positive contributions to the coalition was made by the Lib Dem spring conference yesterday, when it voted against the reorganisation of the health service being driven through by Andrew Lansley, the Conservative Health Secretary.
