The Labour Government have imposed massive house building targets on Northamptonshire and Northampton in the next 20 years. Around 47,000 houses are planned for Northampton and the immediate area.

To push through this development the Government created the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation (WNDC). An unelected quango made up of developers and appointed politicians.

Liberal Democrats in Northampton questioned and voted against the levels of housing proposed for the town. The party also campaigned against the creation of the Development Corporation and took that all the way to the House of Lords.

Both Labour and Conservative parties agreed to the housing figures and to the unelected WNDC. Both Labour and Conservative parties got Councillors appointed to the WNDC.

The Lib Dems were excluded from being represented on the Development Corporation despite the fact that since May the party runs Northampton Borough Council. Recently WNDC has offered the Lib Dems 'Observer Status'.

Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North has camapigned against both the level of houses being built in Northampton and the creation of the Development Corporation to push them through. He has spoken out against plans to build 3,500 houses on Dallington Heath and 1,500 houses on Buckton Fields. He has also opposed development on the former Parklands Middle School site and Kingsthorpe Middle School site.
"I am not against development where it is needed for affordable homes" said Andrew. "But it is wrong to build on green spaces and green fields when we have plenty of other land in and around the town that can be reused for housing. Also the impact on traffic and the environment has not been considered it is all about the Government meeting its targets and developers making money".
