Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman, Allan Knox, has attacked a decision by Tory controlled Lancashire County Council’s to revisit the closure of the Petre Arms and Padiham household waste recycling centres.
A recommendation had been made by a task group to close them but that decision has been deferred till the end of March.
Closure of these tips would inevitably lead to more fly tipping locally and plummeting recycling rates. Many people from Langho, Billington, Whalley Read and Simonstone, who presently use the Petre Arms or Padiham tips, would be seriously inconvenienced and would have to endure long and unnecessary car journeys to Clitheroe dispose of their rubbish.
Allan Knox said: “It is outrageous that Lancashire County Council can take these decisions without consulting local people, local parish councils or Ribble Valley Borough Council”
Allan Knox added “The deferral gives us time to show County Hall that people round here won’t be rolled over by the county.”
