According to a projection model published by the Government's Climate Change Committee (CCC), Manchester Airport would become as busy as Heathrow airport is today, by 2050 if it were to carry on expanding.

The CCC states that if airports such as Manchester's were to expand to these levels, then we would exceed our carbon budget and risk catastrophic climate change.

Furthermore such an increase in flights (1 every 70 seconds), would create extra noise pollution, bringing down house prices near flight paths and blighting the lives of thousands of local residents.
