Pensioners living in sheltered accommodation owned by Registered Social Land lords rents can vary between £90 and £150 a week. Often a weekly service charge is also added. Many of the pensioners have worked hard all their lives and have saved towards a pension. This is being swallowed up by the high rents.

The average charge for similar housing owned by local authorities is £60 a week.

This country has fought in four wars, we are the third richest country in the world and yet our pensioners are the worst paid in Europe.

We the undersigned believe that rents for the elderly in sheltered housing accommodation owned or managed by Registered Social Landlords   are unacceptably  high and call upon the cabinet Minister for Housing to order that  rents are brought in line with rents charge for similar accommodation owned by  local authorities.
